La or L.A.?

Cinematical recently had an article on a subject that should hit very close to home for some of us: filmmaking in the state of Louisiana.

The recent surge of interest in the Bayou State is fairly remarkable when you look at the numbers.

In 2003, five films were shot in the Bayou State; in 2004, that number rocketed to 27, including recent big-name releases The Dukes of Hazzard and The Skeleton Key.
- Jette Kernion
Those numbers sound promising, right? So, how can we, as independent/amateur filmmakers get a piece of the action?

By training. According to Kernion, "...the one problem filmmakers are encountering is a lack of qualified people to work as extras or as crew." Many of us already have a notch on our belt from Little Bayou. By pooling our collective knowledge and resources, we should be able to form a well-versed and talented poole of individuals that are experienced in a variety of skillsets.
