Your money hard at work

At the March meeting of the Lake Area Film Group, Patrick Roddy spurred the membership to make a donation to FOCUS (Fellowship Of Communication's Uprising Students), the McNeese State University chapter of the National Broadcasting Society. Thanks to your help, the organization successfully raised the needed funds and was able to attend the 2005 NBS national convention in Los Angeles, CA. The convention provides students the opportunity to learn production techniques and to seek career advice from industry professionals. The event is also geared towards networking students. The convention concludes with an awards ceremony for student competitions. Entries come from universities across the nation in various electronic media categories ranging from audio and video production, to scriptwriting and web design. McNeese was recognized for three awards. Scott Waldrop was selected by NBS for a Rookie Member Grant. A 30-minute, magazine style video show produced by Patrick Roddy's advanced production class, In The Mix, not only won first place, but received a perfect score from one of the judges. McNeese was also awarded the NBS Rookie Chapter of the Year. FOCUS students who are also involved in the LAFG include Corey Tarver, Scott Waldrop, Candace Harralson, Nick LeJeune and alums Angela Brittain and Candace Carver.
